Those times we sat outside,
under a sky filled with stars,
we looked out for shooting stars,
to embrace one week of good luck.
We never stopped looking at the stars.
We could spot the ones with the dimmest light.
Though they are thousands of light years away,
It never kept them away.
We tried to count them,
But they were way to many.
Mother would tell us which one was orion.
We could see how outstanding she was.
So many years had gone by,
since we sat to count the stars.
Didn't notice the stars had gone to sleep,
not just for the morning,
but for the night.
Soon to forget the bonds that tied us,
To count important the worthless things,
We lost sight of those that gave light in our darkest hour.
Those who made the dark long night beautiful.
Now we look up to search for them,
But they are no more.
We covered them up with a dark sheet
And it seems they've gone to sleep.
Twinkle twinkle little star,
like the diamond you are.
Though the world may no longer know
how beautiful you are.
